Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning for Sneinton homes
Let terraces and flats where the carpet sits over quarry tile or original boards. Over-wetting on either is the real risk, so extraction here is about how much water comes back out.
The stairs are the job in a Sneinton terrace. A steep straight flight with a quarter turn at the top, no landing to work from and a wall on one side, which means the machine head has to be worked from above with the hose fed down rather than dragged up. Underlay in the rented stock is often thin, so the water rate has to come down or it goes straight through to the boards. Downstairs, rugs sitting on quarry tile are a separate problem, because the tile holds cold and any moisture left underneath has nowhere to go. Parking is on the street or the next street, so we work off a portable machine filled at the kitchen tap.
Sneinton sits in NG2, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly dense Victorian terraces, a good number now flats, with the Sneinton Market studios and newer builds at the city end, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Sneinton carpet & upholstery cleaning jobs
Drying is the honest constraint in these houses. Solid nine inch brick walls, single glazing and no through draught means air changes are poor, and a stair carpet cleaned at four on a November afternoon will still be damp the next morning. We book carpet work in Sneinton for mornings where we can, ask for a window open at the front and one at the back to get air moving, and if there is a dehumidifier in the house it is worth running. In summer none of this matters much.
How a Sneinton carpet & upholstery cleaning job actually runs
Before anything wet happens we lift a corner at the door bar to see what the carpet is sitting on, because that decides the job. Downstairs, a fair number of these terraces have carpet laid over the original solid floor with only a thin felt between the two, and a ground floor solid slab in a house of this age is cold and frequently has no modern membrane under it. Water that gets into the backing in that position has nowhere to go, and older carpet can release its latex, which reads as sudden shedding and does not reverse. Upholstery has its own constraint here. A three seat sofa is the largest thing that fits in a front room, so it lives hard against the wall and has to come forward far enough that each panel can be worked to a wet edge without stopping halfway, which means finding somewhere to stand the coffee table for an hour. Waste water goes out to the yard drain rather than down the kitchen sink.
Who books it here
Rented terraces and flats, so end of tenancy and turnaround work dominates, with a growing number of regular customers in the newer builds toward the city.
We run Sneinton on the same round as Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford.
What we check on every Sneinton job
The gripper rod line at every doorway gets looked at first, because in a hall that takes weather the pins rust and mark a pale carpet the moment it is wetted, and that mark stays. Stair nosings are inspected before the machine comes out: the pile on the front edge of each tread is usually crushed flat rather than dirty, and no amount of cleaning raises it back. On budget contract carpet we run the colourfast test on a dark border or a doorway seam rather than in a cupboard, because it is the cheap dyed border that bleeds first. Sofa care labels sit under the seat cushion or on the frame webbing, and where the label has gone we treat the fabric as the more delicate option rather than assuming. Pet marks get checked along the skirting line with a torch, since that is where a dog goes, not the middle of the room.
What the carpet & upholstery cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Upholstery: Embedded hair lifted with a rubber brush
- Upholstery: Vacuumed with an upholstery tool, including down the sides and under cushions
- Upholstery: Care label checked for the W, S, WS or X code before anything is applied
- Carpets: Pile groomed, protective tabs under furniture legs
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full carpet & upholstery cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
What carpet & upholstery cleaning costs in Sneinton
Hot water extraction, priced by room or by property. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
| Property | Typical one-off |
|---|---|
| Minimum call-out | £60 to £90 |
| Single room | £35 to £60 |
| Hallway, stairs and landing | £45 to £85 |
| 2 bed flat, throughout | £75 to £175 |
| 3 bed house, throughout | £140 to £260 |
| 4 bed house, throughout | £200 to £350 |
Stairs are priced separately from rooms because they are slow and cannot be done with a standard wand.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Upholstery, 3 seat sofa | £45 to £90 |
| Mattress clean | £30 to £60 |
| Pet urine treatment, per spot | £15 to £40 |
| Rug, per square metre | £8 to £20 |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.

How long will the stairs take to dry in winter?
Longer than you would like. Allow six hours in a Sneinton terrace with the sashes shut, against two or three in warm weather with air moving. We can extract drier, which shortens it, at the cost of pulling out slightly less soil. Booking the first slot of the day and cracking a window top and bottom of the house makes a bigger difference than anything we can do with the machine.
We have a rug on the tiled hall floor. Can you clean it in place?
We would rather not. Quarry tile is cold and unsealed, so moisture that passes through the rug sits between the two and takes days to leave, which can mark the tile and leave a smell in the rug backing. Better to lift it, clean it off the floor on a protected surface, and let both dry separately before it goes back down.
There is an old stain on the front room ceiling, under the back bedroom. Should we clean that carpet at all?
Yes, but tell us first and we will photograph the ceiling before we start. A mark like that usually means water has been through the boards once already, so we drop the water rate over that area, take slower and drier passes and check the ceiling again before we leave. Knowing it was there beforehand also stops an old stain being blamed on the clean afterwards.
The sofa cannot be moved out of the room. Can it still be done properly?
If it can come forward roughly half a metre from the wall, yes, and that is usually achievable even in a small front room. If it cannot, the back panel and the outer sides are not reachable and we will say so rather than doing the front and calling it a clean. What we will not do is clean a panel in two halves at different times, because the join between them shows as a line once it dries.
Do you cover the whole of Sneinton?
Yes, all of NG2 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does carpet & upholstery cleaning cost in Sneinton?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the room count, whether stairs are included, the fibre type, and whether there is pet urine to treat. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start carpet & upholstery cleaning in Sneinton?
Within a week usually, and we would rather do it alongside a deep clean than as a separate visit. Tight on-street parking and narrow entries between terraces, and we group Sneinton with Nottingham City Centre, Carlton and West Bridgford on the rota.
