Window Cleaning for Bulwell homes
Shopfronts around the market on a weekly or fortnightly rota, and residential stock on the usual six to eight weeks. Tram-corridor grit shortens both.
Two rotas run here, and the commercial one is much shorter. A shopfront near the market place needs weekly or fortnightly attention because it takes market day traffic, delivery vehicles at the kerb and the fine grit that hangs along the tram corridor, and it is judged by everybody who walks past it. Residential terraces have the same grit problem from a different angle. Their windows sit close to the pavement with no front garden between the glass and the road, so winter road spray hits the lower panes, the sill and the render below it. The estate housing further out toward Rise Park is set back and behaves like ordinary suburban glass.
Bulwell sits in NG6, under Nottingham City Council. The housing here is mostly Victorian terraces around the market place, postwar estates toward Rise Park, and newer development along the tram corridor, and that is what shapes this job more than the floor area does.
What we run into on Bulwell window cleaning jobs
On a frontage it is the sill and the fascia below the glass that decide whether the shop looks clean, not the pane. The pane gets attention because it is obvious, while the sill carries a grey tide line of road film that is what people actually register from the pavement. Both go in the same visit. On the terraces the equivalent detail is the drainage slot at the bottom of the frame, which blocks with road grit rather than leaf litter here, and once blocked it holds standing water against a replacement unit through the winter.
How a Bulwell window cleaning job actually runs
Access decides these visits more than the glass does. On a frontage the whole job happens from the pavement with a water fed pole, and the sensible hour is before the shutters go up and before the footfall builds, which also keeps a wet pavement away from customers. On the terraces the front elevation is done from the street and the rear from the shared entry, so a gate has to be unbolted and a dog has to be indoors, and by far the most common reason a rear elevation gets missed is a bolted gate with nobody home. That is better arranged once than knocked off every rota. The estate houses further out have side access and a garden, so the whole property gets done in one pass with the conservatory glazing and the porch included. Purified water is used throughout and the glass is left wet to dry on its own, which is the thing everybody queries on a first visit. It dries clear because there is nothing dissolved in it to leave a deposit, and it is the reason nothing has to be leant against a bay.
Who books it here
The local reference points are Bulwell Market, the tram terminus and Bulwell Forest, which is usually enough for us to find a property without a postcode lookup.
We run Bulwell on the same round as New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall.
What we check on every Bulwell job
On a frontage: the stallriser below the glass, the entrance door and its kick plate, the shutter box and the slats when they are down, and the edges of any applied vinyl, which take a cloth and never a blade or an abrasive pad, because a scraper across lettering is not repairable. On the houses: the gaskets around the pane, the top rail under the head where nothing else ever reaches, the transom bars and the beading that holds the unit in. Stone sills on the older stock, the pale local limestone, get water and a brush and nothing acidic, since acid etches limestone permanently and the dulled patch never comes back. North facing frames carry green algae rather than dirt and are treated as growth. Hard water spotting is softened and lifted rather than scrubbed, and glass already etched by years of it is reported as permanent rather than worked at.
What the window cleaning covers
A sample of what is included
- Exterior: Glass, frames and sills cleaned together
- Exterior: Water-fed pole system using purified water, reaching up to four storeys
- Also: Commercial frontages on a weekly or fortnightly rota
- Also: Green algae on north-facing frames
That is a sample rather than the whole list. The full window cleaning page sets out every section of the scope, what is deliberately excluded and why, how long it takes on each property size, and what tends to go wrong.
The cleaner who comes to your Bulwell property is directly employed and vetted by us rather than subcontracted, and the questions that come up before a first booking are answered on the FAQ page. If you are not certain this is the right service, the services hub compares all 8.
What window cleaning costs in Bulwell
Exterior glass on a rota. Interiors are charged separately and need access. Our own cost research puts the Midlands at around the UK average to 10% below it, so Nottingham sits in the lower half of every range on this page.
| Property | Typical per visit |
|---|---|
| Terraced house | £12 to £20 |
| Semi-detached | £15 to £28 |
| Detached | £25 to £45 |
| Interiors, added to a visit | Roughly half again |
| Commercial frontage | Quoted on frequency |
The first clean of glass that has been left costs more than the ones after it, which is why a rota works out cheaper than an annual rescue.
Priced separately
| Extra | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Conservatory roof | Quoted after seeing it |
| First clean of neglected glass | Higher than the rota price |
These are typical Nottingham market ranges, not our price list. We quote a fixed price in writing for your property before anything starts, because a number produced from a bedroom count alone has priced an average property rather than yours. The figures above come from our own UK cost research, set out in full in this guide.
How often should a shopfront on the market place be done?
Weekly or fortnightly, and weekly if you are on the square itself. Market trading, kerbside deliveries and the tram corridor put a film back on faster than in a residential street, and a frontage is the one surface where a customer forms an opinion before entering. We work before opening, which is also when the pavement in front of the glass is clear enough to work on.
Our front windows are almost on the pavement. Is that a problem?
It shortens the rota rather than causing any difficulty. Winter road spray puts a grey film on the lower half of the glass and on the sill within weeks, so a terrace right on the street realistically wants a four to six week interval where a set back house would hold eight. We clear the frame drainage slots at the same time, because road grit blocks them here.
Why do you leave the windows wet instead of drying them off?
Because the water has nothing in it to dry into a mark. A pole system filters out the dissolved minerals that leave the spots you get from a hose, so the pane sheets off and dries clear on its own. Drying it with a cloth at that stage would only put fibres back on clean glass. It looks wrong for an hour on the first visit and it is the reason the frames and sills come up as well as the pane.
Can you do the back of the house without anybody being in?
Yes, provided the gate into the entry is unbolted and any dog is inside. That is the whole of it. Plenty of customers leave the bolt off on their rota morning or give us a code for a gate lock, and the rear elevation then gets done whether they are home or not. Where the gate stays bolted we can only do the front, and we would rather set that up once than leave half a house each time.
Do you cover the whole of Bulwell?
Yes, all of NG6 and the surrounding streets, under Nottingham City Council. We are based in New Basford, NG7, and there is no travel charge to any part of our area.
How much does window cleaning cost in Bulwell?
The same as anywhere else on our patch, because we do not price by postcode. What moves the number for this service is the number of windows, how many storeys, and whether interiors are included with the exterior rota. Tell us that and you get a fixed price in writing rather than a range.
How soon can you start window cleaning in Bulwell?
Within a fortnight to join the rota, and the first clean of neglected glass takes longer than the ones after it. Market days fill the centre, and we group Bulwell with New Basford, Aspley and Hucknall on the rota.
