We are converting the garage. Does that need a builders clean?
Yes, and often more than a new extension does, because the existing shell was never a finished room. Blockwork joints, the old lintel line and the ceiling void all hold dust that keeps coming down for weeks. Two visits at a minimum, with the second after the floor is laid and the room has been shut up for a day or two.
Does a single storey extension really need three visits?
Two usually covers it, three if it opens into the rest of the house without a door between them. A rough clean once the debris is out, a detail clean of every surface including window tracks and socket faces, then a buff if dust has carried into the existing rooms. We are living in the house while the extension goes up. What actually keeps the dust out?

Be aware dust also travels through the ceiling void and comes down through light fittings and the loft hatch, which is why rooms nowhere near the work still need doing.
Do you clean the new windows, or does the installer do that?
Installers pull their own protective film and stickers off, and usually stop there. What is left is mortar spots, plaster and silicone on the glass and frames, and that is ours. Cured mortar on glass needs a soaked pad first and then a new blade held almost flat, because a dry scrape at the wrong angle scratches the pane permanently. Exterior glass and any render splash on the sills need asking for specifically.
